Another chlorate bitch: strontium chlorate could be a red colour donor equivalent of barium chlorate, but it's so hygroscopic that you can't use it in "common" pyrotechnics. That really sucks, because then you'd just have to add a resin fuel to it, instead of the compositions you have to use now with strontium nitrate (which is also hygroscopic but possible to use), potassium perchlorate and magnesium.

bromate fulfils the criteria but isn't available and isn't possible to make, unless you have a pretty well equipped laboratory
