One of my newts has died.
I'm sorry. Had s/he lived a normal lifespan?
No, it was a juvenile. It looks healthy enough, with the exception of being dead, so there's no clue as to what it died of. It was in a tank outside, and it's possible that the stress of the cold weather, or the temperature swings between the recent mild weather and the current cold weather killed it, but I've no way of knowing. Sometimes amphibians can starve if the weather is too warm for them to hibernate but not warm enough for them to digest food, but it doesn't appear emaciated. Those newts have also been quite active over the winter, so they seem to cope well with near-freezing temperatures.
