Ah, wrote this and then saw Skyblue basically answered your question. Still posting my stance though.

It's a quote of Pliny the elder. Well, I bumped into it reading 'The Essays' by Michel de Montaigne. It translates something like (um, my words): The only thing certain is that nothing is but nothing is more proud/arrogant and wretched/stupid than man (-kind). Um, arrogant and stupid I added because I usually read it like that but proud and wretched are the correct translation of superbius and miserius.

Well, think what Pliny meant was, that (absolute) certainty doesn't exist but certain seems that people will always be more proud and more wretched to see that. He meant it, I think, in a, dunno, sarcastic manner.

I knew the brakes on my van were really bad so I parked it till I had time to fix it.  I had to move it out of the driveway and the rotor broke when I put the brakes on

The loser kid who keeps hitting my son in the helmet amd even grabbing him by the helmet and tackling him as he is blocking him, which is against the rules in all levels of football. I tried to point it out to the coach during a break so the kids wouldn't be around but the kids ran back before I finished and the assistants pulled the kids aside so they couldn't see me apparently undermine the coach. Then the coach came over to me as I tended to my son's hurt wrist to point out I should've called him over instead of calling him out which is what I tried not to do. I explained it wasn't my intent, I was trying to speak privately to him, and that I know they aren't teaching that. Then the kid did it to another kid and he actually tried to tell my son it wasn't him and someone else did it to my son when I first walked over as my son hobbled to me holding his wrist and crying. Basically adding salt to my son's wound and trying to act all innocent. He knew he was guilty. Grrrr!!!
