The outdoor spigot guy found a problem right away and fixed it, but maybe should have given the system a few more ON/OFF cycles before he called it good.
After using it yesterday afternoon there is a checkvalve that makes sure that water gone past the city certified household plumbing structure does not re-enter the household, much the same as the sprinkler system requirement, which has gone completely psycho. Sometimes it works fine then suddenly it leaks all around the spigot.

Anyway, I went to the hardware store to buy new ones. We knew moving into this more modern home would cost more, but DAMN! $34 per check valve unit and we need two of them!
One seems to be working fine, but they are the same age and I am now prepared for that one to piss me off, too.
Now, the sprinkler guy ran into massive troubles. It seems that when the latest upgrade to a new company's fiber optic data system, Metronet, was installed about a month ago, they tore the crap out of our main sprinkler feed pipeline.
The sprinkler was still winterized, meaning no water pressure in the pipes. So these guys found a pipe in their way and instead of being curious, they just ignored it, probably thinking that it was an abandoned line since no water came out when they broke the fuck out of it.
As a professional, the sprinkler guy had fixed every leak he could find, but had patched the pipe three times and there was still a pressure loss, meaning more pipe was messed up somewhere. He had dug and dug by hand with a shovel, but said he had to stop. He could not in good conscience just keep adding patchwork to the problem.
He is coming back next week with a crew and they are going to have to replace the entire feed line up to where they can find the last of the leaks, getting rid of those three patches he tried to get working.
I have been in contact with Metronet and they assure me that they have this all the time and are fully prepared to reimburse me for any damages they caused. The sprinkler guy gave me an estimate of $1800 to do what he needs to do to get the system going again.
So again, MOTHER FUCKER!!
This is not exactly the way I envisioned this week going.
