I rarely get recommendations on books to read. And for good reason, none of them appeal to me. With one exception, Carlas suggestion and purchase for me of "A Libertarian walks into a Bear" by Matthew Hongoltz-Hetling about a quirky NH town invaded by Free Staters and Uber Libertarians (Non-Fiction). Grafton NH to be exact. A good read.
So I go to a local independent bookstore and see and purchase a book, "Shadow of the Wendigo" by an author I will not name. Anywho, seeing what I am buying, the dealer suggests "Abode" which he says is in the same mode. They are both horror and as I read the "Abode" I get more and more bummed out about the writers style and prose. Terrible in fact, I barely get thru the first chapter and barely get into the second before I say "enough" and put it down and shove it in the Goodwill box. The "shadow of the wendigo" is pulp horror at it's flimsiest in a Lovecraftian mode. Fortunately, it's thin and a short read.
The heirs of Lovecraft and the Stephen King wannabes leave much to be desired! No more being open to book recommendations unless its from someone I trust.
