Just had a flask break. One I found particularly useful too, a 100ml 2-neck RBF.
Cleaned up the toxic alkylating agent that went all over the place and hoping to fuck that what I'd just set up was in fact a byproduct, since there is a great deal more of another product. Only thing is, I've a nasty sinking feeling that it wasn't. Not lost the entire lot, hopefully a fair bit has stayed on the bottom of the broken RBF, since it was an oil, of extremely sticky consistency, and it was the side of the flask that gave out.
Bollocks. Best that can be done now is to attempt alkylation of the other product in another flask. But cinnamyl chloride everywhere. Thankfully not a large quantity, but still, its less than pleasant, a DNA-alkylating agent, probably mutagenic and carcinogenic. In fact I'd be astonished if it isn't.
Smells pretty pleasant though, not, thankfully, like cinnamon. Else there would be vomit to have had to clean up too. But I am NOT amused. Thats taken me weeks of tedious, drawn out workup and days without sleep. If it weren't for an antibiotic that would make me really pretty ill if I drank on it, now would be a time to get stinking fucked off drunk. With any luck that small quantity of oil will be the byproduct.
