Louisiana used to only reassess property when it was sold.  Now it's supposedly every 4 years.  We have a $75,000 home exemption, so the first $75,000 is not taxed.  Also the year you turn 65 you can request that your assessed value be frozen.  So it stays the same, except if you make improvements; then they add the value of your improvements to the house.  I'm not sure what our new assessment will be, since we get our assessment value in the summer and the tax bills in December for that year.

Here they tax you on 70% the assessed value which is usually under market value and they have programs for those over 65 also.

They haven't reassessed property values here since 1970.

At my newly assessed value I'm looking at close to $8,000.00.

Unless they are going to make some really radical reductions/adjustments to the present rates, a lot of people are going to be screwed.

They will have to or a lot of people will default in which case they get no money, sure they get the properties but they are not equipped to handle that on a large scale

Really an unbelievable fucking mess. SO's  vintage 1973 fire trap of a trailer with it's 3 redneck additions and fake stone skirting is listed as a double wide with a full basement and was appraised at $86,000. 

This POS wouldn't bring $15,000 on a good day around here.

   I remember riding my bike to school once thinking I was late because I didn't see any other kids along the way only to find out it was a teachers conference day and I didn't have to go
