Found out that one of those commercialized cannabinoid smoking blends sold via head shops and online contains something nasty. Namely one of the JWH-series-type napthoylindoles (or at least I think its a napthoyl group on the indole 3-position), the 4-fluorobutyl homolog of a cannabinoid called APINACA.
Typical functional group for this pharmacophore at the indole 1-position (the nitrogen of the indole ring), numbering goes counting anticlockwise from here w/indole) is either an alkyl group, or a fluoroalkyl, the latter derivatives being more potent. Fluoropentyl is the popular one for most. Problem is with even-numbered carbon chains bearing that terminal fluoride.
The metabolic pathway for these 1-alkyl-3-napthoyl/benzoylindoles includes removal of the 1-position alkyl group. Not a problem seemingly for uneven-numbered carbon chains, but for the even numbered ones, the severed fragment ends up as fluoroacetate, aka 1080, its a constituent of a couple of african and australian plants, along with a pesticide, hence the 1080, a trade name. Stuff is really, really REALLY nasty shit, as it enters the krebs cycle, and buggers up cellular respiration. Its nearly untreatable, and at least as toxic as some of the lesser-end nerve agents, not to mention a cumulative toxin.
If anyone here smokes those things, the product is named 'black mamba', claimed to be the 4th reformulation of the brand, post ban of other ingredients.
Do NOT use this stuff, if you have any, flush it.
Just got one of the two local head shops to scrap their stock and discontinue it, after explaining what the problem was, and why. I'll be visiting the other one later and doing the same (hopefully, on the discontinuation bit)
My bitch goes two ways. One, at the govt. game of whack-a-mole banning stuff for no real reason other than politics, and two fold, for the fucking cretins that would release this kind of shit without doing some basic background research.
Releasing crap is one thing, it isn't good, but something like this...whilst what someone may smoke of this crap probably wouldn't release enough fluoroacetate in one go to kill someone, it IS a cumulative metabolic poison of the utmost severity, and its being piloted direct to the organ having THE highest metabolic demand of the lot.
