I still can't nail down the specs for the computer I wanna build.
i5 12th gen or i7 11th gen? Going for a B660 or B560 motherboard chipsets respectively. Then I deep dived into the QVL lists for the MB's and got frustrated cos none of the RAM sticks I like are on them. Are they even relevant, or can I help myself to any DDR4 memory at a compatible speed and size? Would it void the MB warranty?  :headhurts:

Might have to choose a different MB that can support your RAM choice. But putting higher grade RAM into a system that does not know what to do with it will just compromise the RAM. Won't hurt the MB.

Google issues with the B560 motherboards, I've heard mixed things.

We debated with the i7 when we did the boys 2 years back but went with a Ryzen 7 instead. No complaints.

I didn't find anything, only that MSI boards had issues. The 12th gen 1700 socket I originally planned was too new for there to be choices of aftermarket CPU coolers (not without buying some extra bracket anyway).

I've been learning a lot anyway. Even if it turns out to be a harshly expensive lesson lol.


New thing today: there's a job opening but it's like an hour's commute away. Wondering if I should just say screw it and apply. The extra pay would be eaten up by petrol ( or it could finance an EV purchase if high enough)  :orly:

I've been thinking about EV's lately, maybe going from my ICE extreme V8 to the opposite. You can't predict me at all  :zoinks:
