Is there any way you can borrow a router from somewhere and test this first? I can't say I'm sure about this--remotely dx'ing network issues is kind of tricky.

Come to think of it--if the Belkin's just a router, meaning that there's a separate modem, connected to the router, just unplug it and test connecting directly via the modem.

The only brand I can actually recommend is Draytek, but they are ridiculously expensive. I've heard good things being said about Asus routers but I don't have any first-hand experience with them. The newer, dual band Netgears are supposedly good, too, as are the more upscale Linksys routers. It's the low-end stuff you want to avoid.

I did buy a cheap TPLink last summer when our interwebz broke down and we had to make do with a 3G modem for a while. Don't know how it would hold up after a few months, but for three weeks, it delivered bytes without any problems.

Well when WolFish went shopping for routers online tonight, he found out that our current one has more devices connected to it than it's rated for. It would make sense if that were causing the problem with the cut off files, if the router were rapidly switching between one device and another so it could never get a clear connection through.

Not sure if we could find another router to try. That might require actually holding a personal conversation with one of the geeks at work, and I'm a spaz.

Oh well, can't do that. ::shudder::

But it does sound like a router-related problem.

This router is fairly current. Might solve some of those problems.

Try this

I'm thinking I should get to bed pretty soon.  I have to be at work early in the morning!   :yarly:

Well that doctor appt I had not long ago today went well. I went in to ask about changing an antihistamine and one or two other things.

Did not expect to walk out of there with an additional morphine script. Sure as hell not going to complain about that though :P

Agreed! that sounds utterly repulsive.

I'm not a fan of fish tacos (never had one).  Does that make me prejudiced?
