Time to swap out the chlorine generator for a fresh charge and get ready with the inert gas, refill the coolant bath with cold water, especially now the sun has come out and its plenty hot out. Need to use a bigger flask though since the reaction I'm running now is producing plenty iodine monochloride. I noticed that its crystalline form, below the melting point (or one of them at least, it has two) has been forming these acicular, dendritic looking and rather nice looking crystals during the time of its distilling over into the receiver. At first just into the receiving flask, but also into growing up the distillation adapter and first inch or two of the longer of the two condensers, the one containing the iodine. Odd looking crystal habit, like, kind of dendritic but ray-like. Going to have a rollup now I'm back home from my tech-splurging then its time to swap out the chlorine line and use positive pressure plus a home-hacked direct to bottle distillation device that will allow the Cl2 to be generated and equalize the pressure, relying on a one-way valve-based system. so that I will be able to distill the iodine monochloride directly out from the receiving flask into a bottle from which to transfer it to a chemically resistant glass bottle without its escaping, gas mask or no gas mask I don't want to be breathing that shit in.
