Maybe we should swap places for a while. The only takeaway this place has to offer is a snackbar. So, fries and something.

I do a weekly meal plan. Every Thursday night I plan and then make my shopping list with Friday being my shopping day. I'm not someone who can wing it. I need to know what I'm making on each day and if I have to switch around a dish to another day, that's fine but at least I know I have what I need to make it in the house already.

In theory my plan helps because I know how much meat, fish, chicken to buy each week.

One deli chicken makes 2 dark meat servings and a chunk of white meat chicken salad.
Two cans of tuna and 2 portions of frozen fish.
About two cans of cooked beans and 1/2 pound of sausage.  Rice is about 2 cups.
The pork and beef for Sunday is bought on a monthly basis.  So a medium roast could last 2 to 3 meals.

This is all theoretical since more often than not I end up not following the plan.  But I am getting better at it.  Since it's soon winter the chicken bones will make a serving or 2 of soup for my lunch.

Years ago I figured out that the best grocery sales were in the first ads for the month.  This is because most people were paid on the 1st and 15, on the 1st and retirement and Social Security checks came out on the 1st and 3rd.  That's the best time to catch the bargains.  However, holidays do tend to throw a spanner in the works.

I used to plan meals ahead , but now my health is so errratic, I hust jhave to wing it. Can't wing it with groceruies though, cos they now just have to get ordered online once-a-week or less.
Result: much spoilage, ccos I'm nearly always over-opimistic as to how much cooking i'll manage to do *sigh*
I think that's better than being pessimistic though?

Just had a can of rice pudding out of the fridge (uncooked, I don't heat mine up. I like my rice pudding served cold, at least all the canned ones. The ONLY rice pudding I like hot, is; for some reason, a particular kind that only ever have I encountered in hospitals. That is served hot and I like it that way, but all the brands or kinds I've ever bought, I like to stick them in the fridge for a day or two first to get nice and chilly. And some rhubarb&custard milkshake, 2 liters of the stuff.

I have a family-sized pack of fresh egg pasta, not ravioli, but little packets like that stuffed with salty chicken&bacon. Last one, I ate the entire thing, family size or not. Because now, I am very close to having totally lost my ability to feel hunger at all. I don't know why. So I plan my meals. Even not hungry that pasta, boiled for 3 minutes in water with a bit of salt in it is lovely stuff and both quick to make and easy as fuck.

That it would be nice if the windows on the first floor of my house were bigger it looks so nice when I take the old ones out and there is no window in the opening

I wonder if the shop owner will think I'm weird if I ask her where she bought it

What charity is the mannequin promoting with that white ribbon?  :orly:

It is pink ribbon month. Maybe the white is not white but a pale pink?
Especially lingerie shops will join in with pink ribbon.

Just do it. I bet they've had weirder questions. And weird not nasty things happening make life of a shopkeeper interesting.

You'll be doing them a favour!

Fuck.Ing.SWEET!

Just found a rotavap on ebay for cheap. Only £873.19! free shipping too. Damn.

I was saving for a spectrophotometer, but atm on ebay they are all either visible wavelength or UV-VIS types and I want an IR spec.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1L-Rotary-Evaporator-Rotavap-for-removal-of-solvents-evaporation-free-shipping-/292098335940?hash=item44026ae4c4:g:jj4AAOSwkShZAV1r

I am SO grabbing this. Makes evaporation of solvents (and recovery of them) much faster than distillation either at atmospheric pressure or even vacuum distillation. I am HAVING this. I've wanted a rotavap for ages. They work by spinning the flask containing whatever it is to be evaporated around, placed in a heating bath so a thin film is created on the interior of the flask, and placing the system under vacuum, its vacuum distillation, but due to the larger surface area in comparison to a static flask it evaporates and distills off much much faster. Very useful bit of kit. The spectrophotometer can wait, this is going to be my xmas present to myself this year. I've got enough savings to be able to buy it, and since today and tomorrow are pay-days I'll still have enough for the rent and for food.

Usual prices are in the thousands (some on ebay are going for just over 4K.

So this is a real bargain. Definitely going to grab that. Will wait until tomorrow, just in case any get listed cheaper but if not, then that'll be it. Damn...FINALLY I can afford my own rotavap :autism:
