Really? How do you go about this?  How did you decide on the specifications you wanted in a roast?  What kind of beans do you start with?

Simple. You can buy raw beans in most decent coffee shops here. Raw beans are sorted by origin. Java beans in one bag, Colombia in another etc. Java or Kenya is what I prefer. You take about 200 grams and spread them evenly over a metal plate in an air oven (an "ordinary" kitchen oven) and roast at about 240 C until they begin to "sweat" fat and other liquids. Pull the plate out, pour the beans of and let them cool down. Then grind them in an electric coffee mill. Freshly roasted and ground is the best, but the most important is that the coffee is freshly ground.

I know basically how it's done but, like home brewing of beer, everyone does it different to suit their own taste.  I was wondering how YOU prefer to do it.

As I said, Java or Kenya, medium or a little between medium roast, ground little coarser than "ordinary" coffee and brewed in a vacuum brewer.  8)

Java, IMO, but I'm really too lazy to actually do all that.

I know, and I have. And it's sooooo good. But I'm still lazy. ;)

I didn't start drinking coffee till I was 31.  I wonder how I got along without it!  :coffee:

I started drinking coffee as a toddler. They warned me I'd get red hair and green legs because of it. I so hoped that would happen. Never did.

I started drinking it in my teens. Don't know how I managed without it.
