I bought an old black and white TV to take with me to college.

We had a party line when I was a little kid and I can remember when we only had to dial 2- before the four digit telephone number if it was a local call.

Yes I used to always have at least one book and even read while I watched TV.  Now I almost always have my laptop on reading something.  I miss the books and libraries I was very good at finding things others could not.  I still read and have tons of books though

Yes, before teh interwebz, had to root around for my books. Now can reserve books online and pick them up at my convenience, and my membership comes with a log-in to an e-books library too.

Books, black and white TV, pencils and paper writing, sex, party lines on phones, one phone to a house, telegrams (we actually got one once), sex, seeing a movie only once at the show, cars and houses without air conditioning or central heating, ironing clothes, sex, the first Elvis Presley 45 record, Hi-Fi (pre-stereo), board games, sex..........................

Ahhh, those where the days.

I read, till my legs got restless. Then ran around in the woods around my house, went back for more reading.

Had my first TV for myself in 1989 because of what was happening in the eastblock.

As a kid, we were the only ones with a phone in our part of the street. So, we functioned as phone-booth for our neighbours. And, if an accident happened on the road, lots of people would go out to have a look, my mum would just put the coffee machine on. The people would end up at our place, because of us being the only one with a phone.

Funny, our neighbour worked at the company for phone, mail and telegrams, but did not have one for himself and his big family.

I played with Lego mostly, along with watching TV. Went online at around 1999-2000, then had a permanent connection by late 2003.

Doing research for uni is mostly done on the internet now (Google Scholar and uni's research portals are excellent). Before the internet I would have had to actually look in the journals in rl.

I loved doing real physical research at the library it was like a puzzle game for me and very satisfying.  I worked in a libray for two years in college and was very proficient in using them to the fullest

I wasn't able to afford a computer that would go online until 2000, bought one used from a friend, 2 weeks later I acquired a POS scanner with the glass broken...replaced the glass with a piece of plexi, scanned and uploaded my first photos of some oil lamps, sold the lamps & some parts online for around $700.

Mom got the new washer she needed at the time, and I was officially addicted.

About five years ago was the first time ever having cable and paid internet, though still rarely watch tv. Went years at a time without watching tv before cable, but we only had three or four channels so it wasn't too hard to ignore. Used to have netzero for internet, even after they restricted access to 10hrs per month; it was plenty and rarely used in full. Then I found autistics...

I got the internet in 1999, right after I graduated from high school.

My school had it in like 95 though ? And I remember playing Oregon Trail on DOS in grade school.

I never liked TV. I like to take walks, and smoke weed.

We got dial up internet in 96 and a cable modem in 02.  I didn't have cable or color TV at home till 1984 when I paid for both with money from a summer job
