And I will eventually bodie, bit by bit is how I'll have to do it, as some of the stuff I need, like a turbomolecular pump for the vacuum chamber comprising the actual cyclotron cavity, beamlines, etc. plus a roughing pump pre-stage, not going to come cheap, or the power supply.
Thankfully I do have some heavy machinery for metalworking, a lathe, etc. in the shed, which will be helpful, but its just the expense really, have to build a van de graaf generator to power it, etc. and run it of course. And unfortunately limited just how powerful its practical to build one, without say, building several of 'em to run in series, on household power supplies, just how much total current can be drawn at any one time, and in this case, the stronger the magnetic field, and higher capacity for powerful RF field emitter one has, the faster one can accelerate electron/positrons, protons, and deuterium/tritium nuclei, and thus the more energy they carry.
Bigger the better, when it comes to that. Although even a cyclotron moderate power would be suitable for irradiating samples for production of artificial isotopes of many common (or less common..hehe) elements, transmutations such as breeding tritium by bombardment of 6Li, etc.
And IIRC the barrier for D-T fusion is something like 0.1MeV, producing helium nuclei and releasing energy in the form of heat, ass-load of neutrons, gamma, etc....I think thats doable at any rate.
And again MORE bloody magnet wire will be needed for the likes of quadrupole or sextupole magnets to focus and compress the beam.
