No more gross than a quartered chicken, or a side of pork ribs.

That is subjective of course.  I find it really gross myself.  I find the idea of eating any carnivore to be really gross.
Jack has a good point with respect to cultural bias influencing what we consider fit to eat. OTOH unless I get stuck in a Jap POW camp a la King Rat I won't eat dog.

Maybe, but have to say no. Raw meat is raw meat, looks like raw meat, dead flesh, whatever. It is what it is.

I have eaten a lot of cow and chicken, but only ever operated on a cat and a dog.  This might be why I have a different reaction to the two.  I expect to see a cow in a wrapped package, it is the defining image in my mind.  I expect a dog to wag its tail and come over for a pet as that is the defining image in my mind.  Mixing that image with food just makes me ill.

Just because something is done in china, doesn't make it acceptable to me  in my culture.

Where i live, cat's and dog's are considered highly intelligent animals.  They are more than just

pets - often part of the family.

True, if i had been bought up in china i probably would think different.   :screwy:

Thankfully i haven't.  Therefore the idea of eating cat or dog is never ever going to be 'ok' to me.

I have been surrounded by dogs my whole life and i am afraid eating one would be like

cannibalism  to me - that's how much they are part of the family.

re: cows i can't see how cows would survive without farming.  surely they would
become extinct? :dunno:

Most eastern cultures find the idea of eating half rotten clotted milk disgusting, but I love me some cheese.

I had a pet bunny and wouldn't want to eat hasenpfeffer in anything other than a starvation situation either.

In a starvation situation I can't say.

I will say, If I was stranded on a mountaintop with 1 overly obnoxious human and 1 dog, facing starvation and no hope for rescue anytime soon...the dog definitely wouldn't be the first to go. ;)

just a few months ago a few dogs were found skinned alive in this little neighborhood near where I live. It was a big deal. Police thought there might be satanists ( there have been a lot of cases of satanists doing such things around here)

funny thing is, i went to google it - no results ???

Alive  (both the film and the book) really impressed me, and I hope that in a starvation situation, if I were the first to die,
my fellow travelers would eat me!  My fatty flesh would sustain them in fine health till they were rescued!   :viking:

What makes you say so? In my view, using an animal with a higher "sentience" is taboo. A chicken doesn't really think much of anything except eating and shitting. Dogs hypothesize, plan, and dream.

Pigs are considered to be very intelligent animals.

To me, the line is if an animal is a pet or not I think. You don't eat pets, you took them in your family circle to be part of that. Be it a chicken, a cat, a rabbit or a pig. And you don't feed on your family circle.

And cultures being higher, because of what they eat. I should go for the Indian culture then I guess, with all the holy cows.

Don't get me wrong, i'm a predator. I just think the more intelligent animals should be left alone.  :zoinks:
