This afternoon a magpie visited my garden and although I'm not a big fan of them (sneaky bastards they tend to be/also looting nests of smaller birds.. eating egg contend a/o already born youngsters) but but.. this bird had a sad karma about it. The poor fella missed a claw and, for starters, walked oddly and troublesome because of this. He had one claw and one stump thus.. and.. dunno..
I have seen (fat) pigeons in Amsterdam that had the same handicap but pigeons are more adapted to go about on flat surfaces. Magpies less so, I reckon. They tend to sleep in trees for instance (pigeons can rest on their bellies, on a flat surface, too) and I doubt this bird can.. holding on to a branch with one claw.
Well, blah.. bird survived at least p/m one year (incluis tough winter) so.. who knows..
