Think quite a few Swedish 'nøtteskriken' migrate towards here (and more southwards). Plus ja (or blah), they, like magpies also, are quite intelligent birds. Jays also, did you know, are responsible for the spreading of oak trees in Europe. This, cos they collect the acorn (sometimes more than 500 of them) and store them on numerous locations in Autumn (/late Summer.. to have food in Winter).. and remember where they stored the nuts even months later. Same thing with chestnuts, I think.
Oh, 'the spreading'? Well, they also forget some of the locations where they put the nuts and then the following Spring a new little tree emerges.
And magpies? Well, I like birds in general and due to me being a bit of birdlurver I don't like those other bird's egg-stealing or young bird's life-taking 'bastards'. They are all over the place here and make smaller birds shit their pants.. well, in springtime they do.
