My name's not QV, but grits are ground hominy, which is corn that has been treated with lye to make it more digestible.  I like grits with cheese.

Grits are a disgusting variant of hominy corn that are technically edible but best saved for post nuclear war zombie infestation scenarios. Don't blame QV, she is Southern. They are often brought up with romanticized notions of the CSA and a tendency to eat horrid things like grits and okra.

Delightful...corn soaked in caustic soda.

Cant watch the video, no sound on my pc atm, and I'm having problems with flash clips running.

Okra is delicious too, either dusted in cornmeal and fried or in a gumbo.

And in New Orleans,
chicory in our coffee,

crawfish
and beignets.

Reading Gone With The Wind is the first place I recall mentioning chicory when I was a kid. It is not found very many places in California.

Or frozen whole okra, thawed until it's icy cold, with onion, dressed with oil and vinegar.  Yummmmmmmmmmmmm.

BTW, my Mom and I went to Wentzels (a Mobile Alabama icon) in the 1970's. We had the gumbo.  After our first spoonful, we looked at each other and both said, "I didn't know I didn't like okra in gumbo until now."

The string from the blinds was swinging a bit and tapping the wall when I had the window open.
