Bobcats used to be rare around here along with bears and coyotes but now they seem to be all over.
Had a deer in the front yard just 20 feet away from my front door eating the hostas who would not leave till I came out the door and shooed him away
They do the same here.
We lived six blocks from a good size river, which would be smallish for most of the rest of the country. But, we had deer and coyotes in our alleys and back yards very often.
I bought nine new gallon size hostas this spring. The kids helped me put them out, but within a few days the deer had chewed all the top growth down to a nub.
They are still alive, yes, the deer too. Then as new growth pops up, the rabbits gorge on the tender new leaves.
I am sure these hostas will come back next spring, but it would be great of they had some leaves to ensure some root growth before winter.
Here we are more than a mile from that river, but a small park is about three football fields away, loaded with deer. They venture right across the open golf course and help themselves to peoples' yard plants.
I haven't seen any bears except in northern Indiana, near Michigan.
