And now I'm wondering what to make of my observation. Does it mean that I am prejudiced? Probably. But did I think less of that person? No. I think it tells something about me, not him. I'm wondering what.

It's hard to describe people without saying what they look like.  :lol1: As for the particular verbiage, I don't know what's commonly used and accepted where you live. I just know it's no good here.  :dunno:

I realise that.

Understand that for the first eleven years of my life, the only person of colour I ever met in real life was a Pakistani girl in my class. She wasn't particularly dark or anything, the rest of us were simply really pale. Kind of a typical thing growing up in Finland back then. The big difference was more her jet black hair. I thought she was very pretty and very different.

It's about context and what you are used to.

I was basically the brown girl you knew in a sea of pale people, until I moved away from there.  :lol1: When I need to describe what someone looks like I say something about their complexion like I would their hair color, like light/dark/tan, instead of naming a race. I'm not really sure if that's okay.    :dunno:

Honestly, I don't know what's OK to say and what's not. Good point about race, though. I will try to take it to heart.

I think we all have a degree of prejudice when it comes to strangers and sometimes we notice stereotypes. The key point, that you made though, is that we shouldn't think less of a person, until they have done something to deserve it.

There's a fellow who works in one of those one stop gas mart places. He is 6'7", shiny black skin, large accent, I see him a lot and one day I asked if he played basketball, assigning to him my own stereotype. Big tall skinny guy in Indiana, had to have played college ball somewhere.

Nope, he says "football" and he doesn't play basketball. He looks to be approaching thirty. I asked where he was from and if he was a receiver and which team he had played for - again another stereotype from me.
He said that it was not that football, but soccer and he is from "TuNIsie." I thought he meant Tennessee, but he had used his own name for his country which we call Tunisia. Oh!
Then he pulls out his wallet and shows me a screen capture of him making one of his scores from an ESPN broadcast. Soccer. Professional soccer player from Tunisia. Cool!

Yeah, I had it all wrong, from prejudging with my own set of experiences, without even meaning to.

 :dunno:
... but I did recognize a professional athlete.

I'm definitely getting singled out by a midget... If I get fired, then by all means... I'll look forward to it.

I am not sure where this is from (I mean I found it on an audio site with a joke thread) and I know it is popular to meme everyone famous, but I think this is a very young Christina Ricci meme'ed out.

Excellent message, too, BTW!

Thank you.

Not that I am crazy enough to see Ricci in everything, but she does seem to pop up a lot lately.

We've all seen redneck stupid, redneck "hold my beer" stuff, but redneck awesome is rare.

This bunch of Texas folk needed an outbuilding, but didn't want to fuck up their mesquite or hackberry trees, so they built around them.

"The mind is a terrible thing!"  ... Richard Pryor playing on the old "mind is a terrible thing to waste" Public Service messages. "You can be all smart and everything but that MIND will get you in trouble every time!!"

It's a barbeque place, BTW. Another example of redneck awesome, generally.
