I agree that marriage is a load of bullshit. But at the same time it's a quick and easy way of getting all the legal protection (and yes financial benefits too lol) that comes with it.

The problem is that once you go in, it's a pain in the arse to get out. It's almost like selling the soul to the devil just to be rich or something.

you have to fucking idea how hard it is to get out of a marriage. If one party doesnt want to cooperate, it takes forever and ever. Oh, and it fucks with your credit too.

Because the church doesn't allow homosexual marriages (the official definition is a holy matromony between a man and women) so civil partnership was made as a comprimise. In a civil wedding you can't use any religious terminology in your vows for this reason.

Here the main church was blessing and celebrating gay relationships before the state was ready to have civil partnership, let alone marriage for gay people.

So, church doesn't have to be a reason.

When I was a child, back in the 1970s, we had a guest celebrant at Mass once, a monsignor who talked about the "hippie"
weddings being chosen by Catholic youth who should have known better because after all they'd been raised in the Church!
I still remember the contempt with which he said "Barefoot in the backyard, with a justice of the peace!"

Why worry about it Soph? You have been very clear in other threads that you are quite satisfied to have others pass laws on your behalf so you can deal with other things, possibly ice lollies and chips and gravy. Just trust those in power to have your best interest at heart.

Honestly? Yes. I don't want to vote on every single law the govt wants to pass. I actually have other thigns I want to do with my life
