I live in Nowhereville according to those who know where it is, but that's not what it's called either.  :viking:

Thought I lived there.

If I one of the school kids takes it's finger out of the dike, it will be nowhere indeed.

My uncle was visiting this last week (the reason I wasn't posting much) and he had this girlfriend with him from China.

So I asked her what part of China she was from and she said "the northeast part next to North Korea"

I replied "Oh you mean Manchuria??"

She looked at me puzzled like I just spoke Greek to her. So she got out her little english to Chinese translator thingy and typed in manchuria.

She said, Oh, that's 3 provinces. We don't call it Manchuria.

WTF??  :zombiefuck: I had no idea the Chinese quit using the term.

Sweden isn't called "Sweden" in Sweden either, that is "Svithiod", the original name. It's called "Sverige", which is short and old-fashion spelling for "Svea rike". "Svea" comes from the Germanic tribe Svear, and Svealand is one of the main "lands" or historical regions of Sweden. "Rike" is the same as German "Reich", which means "kingdom" or "realm".

What I mean is that they don't have an equivelent term. Apparently they quit calling that area Manchuria (named after the Manchus) sometime around the turn of the century (1800's-1900's).

I live in Lompton according to those who know what parts of town are like.  :zoinks: But that's not exactly what it's called either.  8)

a contraction of Lompoc and Compton. Parts of Lompoc are gang infested ghettos.

Here in Sweden several parishes, towns and cities were totally renamed to honour kings and queens at least until the end of the 19th century.
