PPK, I just noticed that you don't have an ask away thread, so now you do.

Question #1. Do you know of a gunsmith who would re-barrel an L1A1 (FAL) as a .260 Remington??

If so, do you think it would be a worthwhile conversion in order to reducue the weight of the ammunition?? (150 gr bullet to a 95gr)

I have to answer No and No. 55 grains X 20 = 1100 grains or ` 2.5 ounces. Not worth the inability to use mil surp ammo. I can't recall the difference in drop @ 3 and 400 yards but it didn't seem significant when I looked it up when the 260 was introduced.

Furthermore since gas systems can be sensitive to burn rate and pressure curves you might be taking a known good system and fucking with the reliability. I know Garands can't use just any bullet/powder combo that works in a bolt action.

There is a restaurant close by my union hall called The Canyon Cafe on Highway 29 in American Canyon. The last few times I have eaten pancakes in the last 5 years it has been there. I will eat Eggo waffles as something easy to fix.

Nope, not at all. Getting used to a bank of needles going in and out of the flesh is one thing, not my favorite thing but tolerable. Deliberately burning my flesh or cutting it open and rubbing ashes in the cut sounds like a bad idea.

Well, yes, you have to pay attention to port pressure, but with the L1A1, you have an adjustable gas system, so it's not nearly as much of a concern.

My first realoading experience was with my SKS. The guy who taught me how to reload recommended BL(C)-2. It turned out that BL(C)-2 was too slow for the gas system so although it shot well and produced good velocities, it hammered the fuck out of the gas system and bolt.

It tends to like powders that are a notch too slow for the .44 Magnum, but too fast for most rifles. It tends to like the same powders as the .22 Hornet.
