i KNOW ive had 3, but now i can only remember 2

1. i had a freeeaaaky creeeepy dream, and was waking up from it. paralyzed. very classic. some noise from the dream was still buzzing around my head, there were at least two presences in my room, and both were hostile towards me, but not showing themselves. i was only semi-concious to who, what where, etc, and all i wanted to do was be free of whatever was happening
very terrifying
i snapped out of it w a gasp, into a room that was not as brightly lit as it was moments ago, and refused to go back to sleep :D

2. much more unusual, im sleeping over at my uncles. i got the lights on, im reading on the bed, but im exhausted, so i fall asleep while still having the comic book up.
within moments i wake up to a strong, tight, cold grip around the back of my neck
it pulls me up from the comic, sideways, and out of bed, down on the floor
im WTF'ing more than i ever have before, as i climb back into bed, and decide to read more jolly friendly comics, to sortof... fill my head with happy thoughts again :D
i had a LOT of bad stress climaxing in my life during that time.

Sometimes I can't move for a minute or two after waking up, but it's not a scary experience; just inconvenient.

I get it when I'm going to sleep too, which is usually a rather gradual process for me which can take an hour or more, so sometimes I'll hear my dog pacing around but won't be able to get out of bed to let her out to the toilet until the paralysis wears off.  Counting to three before making an effort to move helps a bit, and if there's something urgent, like someone ringing the doorbell, I get a shot of adrenaline which immediately breaks the paralysis.

  • Who are you?
I had it once very bad that I can remember I had taken Trazadone for sleep.  I woke up and could not move or talk  for more than an hour which seemed like forever I was unsure if it was ever going to wear off.  Needless to say I never took that again.

I don't remember ever having that, but it sounds scary to me.

  • You're goddamn right.
Love this topic! I get sleep paralysis only when falling asleep and only for a moment, but I had
these episodes for years before I knew what to call them! What happens with me is that,
as I am drifting off to sleep, I will begin to hear a high-pitched ringing in my ears, that gradually
gets louder and louder, accompanied by a growing feeling of dread, and often by an icy chill on
my back.  I feel as if I MUST stop the ringing before something bad happens.  :zombiefuck:
Fortunately I am still mobile enough to twitch a leg or flex my spine, and that snaps me out of it.
I have these episodes only a few times a year, less often than when I was in my teens.

Occasionally I have a dream to go along with the sound. Most recently, I dreamed that my brother
was driving a car, I was his passenger, and we were going faster and faster along a stretch of
highway I recognize from waking life. This time, instead of a ringing sound, I heard a ROAR, as if
I were hearing the wind rushing past us. It was unpleasant, but very brief, as all my episodes are.

I have that now and then just before falling really asleep. And I kind of like it. I know I will be sleeping fully very quickly after that happens.

I like the sensation of falling that I sometimes get when I'm going to sleep.  It doesn't always mean that I'm about to reach a state of sleep though; I often get to the brink of sleep, loiter there a while and begin meandering back towards a wakeful state without having crossed the threshold into sleep.

Zegh, I get the "there is something/someone in my room" and  a feeling of terrible dread like CBC gets. This "thing" also sits on my chest until I wake up. I also move a limb or finger or some such thing to snap myself out of it, but for a few seconds after becoming consciuous, I find it very hard to breath and my heart is going like a race horse. My partner has also told me that I have sat up with eyes open and said to the room "I know you are here. Show yourself!" and when he tried to question me, I was asleep. I have creeped him out plenty!

I also bite, kick and punch in my sleep. I have also flung myself off the bed in my sleep(I have injured myself like that more than any other way ::)).

Sleep is my enemy.

the sitting on chest sensation is apparently very common
the word "nightmare" is related to that, a "mare" a demon/evil spirit sitting on you, weighing you down

I hate that sensation of falling.

As a kid I did not dare going to sleep, except when I held myself tightly to the bar at the side of my bed. So scared of that falling sensation. I would tense up so strongly, while holding that bar, that I could not fall asleep because of that.

Me too, and it combined very well with my fear of heights. Horrible.
