Damn how could I forget?
« on: December 05, 2010, 10:31:43 PM »
I can't do groups and listen for long periods of the time.

I sign up for childbirth classes and I thought it be so easy. I took a breast feeding class and it was easy. It was only 40 minutes long and we all watched a video and I did just fine despite other people being there.

But the childbirth class was six hours long and all day and I got tired in class, took pretty much everything literal and said things lot of people wouldn't say and missing all these social cues. Damn how could I forget I have a hard time in class? It's been so long since I have been out of school. I bet I made myself look like an ass or stupid. People kept laughing.

No more classes for me. I even cringed when the teacher said she is putting us into groups. It reminded me of school and I hated getting into groups.

I only do good one and one for some reason but not when there are other people. No more classes for me.

Six hours is along time to be stuck with a group of people. I think you did well to stay until the end of it.

Are there any more short classes?

Six hours is horribly long indeed.

Why didn't they cut it into a few shorter sessions?

I had a few shorter ones, were we did some practical exercises. And where we most of all learned to physically relax.

In the end, when you give birth, either your body does all the work it needs to do by instinct, with maybe a few helping suggestions from a midwife or doctor, or the medics will take over. People have gotten kids without a course for centuries, and if you have a doctor or midwife to rely on, you will do great, also without a course. Most important thing is not to worry too much I think. If need be, there will be a doctor taking over.

Hope it will be a great thing for you, giving birth.

There are short classes around but I am at work when they happen and they are about two hours long. They just figure evenings are good because that is when everyone is off work by then but damn I wish they cater all work schedules, do mornings and early noons for the ones who work swing shift or evenings.

I paid $85 to attend those two classes over the weekend and that was all I found for my schedule. I wasn't going to waste it.

I have no idea why they didn't cut them. They have other classes too but I didn't sign up for those. I don't think it's worth it because of my difficulties.

The social chit-chat courses did not help me at all. Practical courses did help a bit. Mainly the relaxing part.
A friend of mine did quite some courses, and at the complicated delivery found out that the only thing that helped her really, were the yoga classes she had been taken for years.

What I heard of after courses are that they are mainly filled with social chit-chat too, combined with pelvic floor exercises. The latter can be found online too.

I had childbirth classes and I used the breathing a bit when I was in labor, then I had to have a C-section and didn't really use any more of what I had learned.

Surprisingly enough the one who enjoyed the birthing class was reticent Prince Albert.  I guess I knew most of the stuff and knew I wanted a C-section and somehow knew that was what I was going to have (odd presentation of baby for delivery.)
