It's more likely that they test it for rabies and other diseases.  If it's healthy they probably set it loose in a wild area.

i hope they set it loose. i dont want it to really die :( poor thing was probably scared. i would have killed the motherfucker though if it got too close to me or attacked me. But i dont want an animal to get hurt.
