Possibility of 1984 scenario in the future?
« on: November 02, 2010, 06:24:43 PM »
Who thinks it's possible? I'm worried it might be. Also, do any of you think we will have WWIII? I hope we don't  :zombiefuck:  Will we ever find another hospitable planet to live on just in case this one gets nuked? Discuss.

You should have made three separate threads for this  :zoinks:

As long as they don't put cameras in my house, I'm ok

I think that there is a possibility.

You guys have cameras everywhere, it seems, except for inside Soph's house, and we have the FBI sticking GPS units on people's cars who are suspected of something but without enough evidence of this suspected wrongdoing to get a warrant and when it looked like that would be overturned, someone from Obama's administration said it would deprive law enforcement of a tool they often use.

I like the fact that he made this video, but I didn't vote for him.

I wanted to vote for Hillary Clinton primarily because of her position on health care.  I think our new Obamacare has made things worse instead of better, but Hillary Clinton was behind some of the protections Americans have with their health care now.  She wanted us to have health care more like yours or Canada's, while Obama wanted to keep our health insurance companies much as they are now.  He said he would veto a bill that had no public option, but then he signed it into law.

Binty, I shall do a bit of reading, but in the meantime, Google uses an algorithm to catalogue my search terms so that they can bring up appropriate advertising for my nihilist desires. I have the options of "a new bunker installed on site. Cheap! You buy now!" or "By baked beans in bulk" or "Why stop at semi-automatic weapons? Here you can get all the protection you need with our super dooper missile launcher. The best thing for getting rid of nasty pasties who want to steal your stash in a post Apocalyptic Earth!"

Short of that, Google is most likely programming my clone (because I am SO important) with all the search terms I have ever put in. It will be a Google Mini Me.

I like Google. It helps. :zoinks: I do not mean to be a hypocrite, but I am. Besides, I like guns. I wouldn't be very good with one though.

We will destroy this planet. Thats a garauntee. Good news is, we'll most likely find a hospitable planet or terraform one before the point of no return for humans. Earth is fucked though because the more technology we develop, the more possibilities for the destruction of this planet crop up. Technology is a double edged sword.

While the chances of this are low right now, within the next two hundred years it becomes close to 100%. Scary huh? Thing is, we'll be able to leave by then, so its alright.

On the question of war, yeah. Its gonna happen as long as humans are alive. Its retarded, but yeah.

I'm an optimist, and would like to think it won't happen. Orwell was writing about 1949, the time he wrote the book. However, some of the things that were mentioned have come about, (like the CCTV and the Newspeak that the government uses. But while we have the freedom ourself to tell these fuckers to back off, there is still a chance. And if it does happen, we'll all be dead by then and it won't matter.

War'll happen again, but we'll survive.

We're going to poison the planet to death and probably blow it up after that, but we'll survive that too.

The only way to ultimately save ourselves is sort out space travel and colonise other systems. If wars and certain particle accelerators don't kill us, then over-population and wasting resources will. All this green bullshit does nothing but provide false protection, not even a temporary solution compared to the big picture.

As for if society will turn like 1984, that's really hard to say. You can't hope it won't happen, because it'll inevitably will happen in some form. You *can* hope it doesn't happen in your lifetime though.
