CCTV cameras
« on: November 01, 2010, 06:41:40 PM »
People here complain about CCTV a fucking LOT. What do you think?

Personally, I think they're a good thing. I mean they are in public places after all, not your bedroom.

I think audio ones are goign a bit far though.

The cameras don't bother me, but have had some super creepy vibes from people who have the job of monitoring them.

They're not putting cameras in your house. if you do something in public, you're doing it in public

Big difference between cameras in public, which can deter crime and help catch criminals, and cameras forcibly put inside someone's bedroom

I think it's invasive and the crime reduction is minimal at best.  I have voiced my concerns about the "nothing to hide nothing to fear" mentality before in that people with that attitude are just ushering in the whole 1984 world faster

Yes, there is a big difference. It doesn't mean that they aren't doing it (bugging peoples homes on suspicion) or won't do it in the near future.

I always thought they were somewhat invasive.

Then I read about that woman they caught on CCTV camera stuffing the friendly neighborhood cat into someone's trash can and closing the lid (they found the cat 15 hours later, unharmed, in the can).  :zombiefuck:

I think they can be useful in a public setting, especially in the case of a possible abduction or missing person.

If you think CCTV is bad, watch out for photographers like me. I'm allowed to take photos of people in public areas without their consent. Even children.

Any violent or aggressive action towards me will get you imprisoned. Even making me delete the photos is a criminal offense. The only way I could be done is if I was following people in an obviously suspicious manner and/or taking photos of their private details ie. PIN codes.

Thankfuly I don't have the guts to do much street photography.

No, just wanted to point out what delusional thinking that makes its way into government.

Now that you can combine cameras with computer face and license plate recognition software, the governmet has the power to trace your every move.

Do you feel safer knowing that big brother is watching your every step??
