Anyways must dash, my mother was rushed to A&E today, so i need to make some calls see if shes ok, if shes coming home, needs me to go down or whatever, since i had to stay here and take care of some things for her that she couldnt do.

Hey Lucifer, well mum basically mum woke up on Sunday with a head to toe severe skin allergic reaction to something it was like massive scald marks/burns really nasty marks all over her body and she had some chest pains etc, so she got to the docs on Monday and they gave her a course of antihistimines, the doc was worried about the chest pains etc, but told her to take the tabs and if things got worse or she had any swelling, further chest pains etc she was to go straight to the A&E.
Anyways she took the tabs that evening, and following day she woke up with massive swollen lips, her neck was swollen, had bad chest pains, and her muscles were painful, and she has these new types of marks on her skin, so she had to go to hospital. The docs ran tests and wanted to give her a nebulizer and steriods, it seems they think the further progression of her symptoms was caused by the antihistimines.
The head consultant overruled the emergency department doctor and said even though it was a severe reaction, he wasnt gonna give her steriods and start her on that route if he didnt need to and she had no history of that in the past, instead he got in contact with a specialist allergy clinic. So she has to go to the GP tommorrow get her appointment for the clinic and we shall see what happens, hopefully she will feel alot better by then, heres hoping.
If she develops further symptoms or gets worse im to get her back to the hospital immediately. I havent had much sleep and wont be able to get any sleep, as ive been having to check on her, make sure she doesnt get worse etc, as shes still got the pains in her limbs and chest even though her lips have went down.

Anyways yeah thanks for asking Lucifer.
Im sure she will be ok, fingers crossed, i just hope she makes a sharpish recovery.

That sounds horrible, Hypnotica Gaze.  It almost sounds like Stevens Johnson Syndrome, which is a terrible allergic reaction to some drugs, but your mother did not start taking a new medicine recently before her rash started, did she?  I hope that she feels better soon and that they manage to figure out to what she is so horribly allergic, so that she never ingests whatever it was again.

yea i hate allergic reactions, aint had one since childhood actually (and that nearly finished me off), when i was mistakenly given amoxillin, (incidentally about a day after i was found to be allergic, in the same hospital, and by the same nurse.... i mean WTF), but yea i was like 6 or 7 and had a cramped chest, and went a weird purpley-blue colour for about 12 hours.... but now i rarely get ill, maybe cos of the things that have bolstered my Immune system (i hope)...

I'm allergic to amoxicillin too and so is my daughter.  We both get itchy hives if we take it, but so far it does not cause us to have difficulty breathing.

i'm sorry HG that's awful i hope she's gonna be ok. is it a freak attack of allergies then? i had a weird allergic spell when i was in england, i drank half a bottle of some citrus drink and all a sudden i felt awful like it was hard to breathe and i got really nauseous and fatigued and my whole throat and lung area felt awful. and pine trees were making it worse and they were everywhere... then i took some benadryl and got better and it's never happened again. i was afraid i was gonna die, it felt like my surroundings were attacking me, nature felt toxic... anyway that just reminded me of it. sometimes weird shit happens out of the blue and then goes away, i hope this'll clear out soon for your mom.

Had a really meh night lastnight, the swelling in her lips had went down, and i thought shed be fine, i checked on her at 2:30am, she was fine except the muscular pains, sore and itchy skin etc then around 3am i went back in to check after shed went down had a glass of milk and the side of her face and her top lip was badily swollen, worse than before.

I kept checking on her as she didnt want to go to A&E, as nothing else was worse just her face and the A&E docs are plonkers, so got her round to the docs first thing at 9am, and basically the doc said she doesnt think it was the anthihestamine at all, its more likely that mum was still in contact with the allergen. Which i said to mum when she started swelling etc again, even though we couldnt work out what it was. Anyways we think it may have been the new citrus fruity washing up liquid mum changed to a couple of days ago, since its the only thing thats changed. Needless to say i got rid of it, so mums to wait till the swellings went down and take the new antihistimine shes been given and see if that helps.

It wasnt very nice watching her like that, because she kept swelling and looked so different etc, my bro was freaked out, so i had to calm him down aswell as look after mum, makesure she was alright and would tell me if she felt anything new etc so i could follow the neccessary steps.

But yeah thanks again everyone, hopefully things will get better now and that the washing up liquid was indeed what she had the reaction to.

Yeah Milla, that must have been really horrible and very frightening. Thats good the benadryl helped and you never got it again.

I know quite a lot of people who have had reactions to Amoxicillin, that and Brufen seem to be popular offenders. Yeah Callaway the skin reaction can be annoying and bad enough as it is, without other added complications, its good you and your daughter havent had really severe reactions to the drug.

Well shes been joking about how she feels like Leslie Ash after the collagen lip enhancing injections fiasco that gave her magnified fishlips. So even though shes still got the swollen lips, some of her other symptoms have lessened and shes gotten a little bit perkier, shes not as down and stressed out, which is great, so yeah hopefully it will continue to ease and blow over without any further setbacks.
