Yeah. Really miss him actually. Even though he's been dead a long time.
There's some that stand out more than others for a variety of reasons. A year ago I lost my 5 year old Leo to cancer and it was a shot to the gut.

This one was our only dog from when I was 4-17.  So, pretty much bound to.

Small dog comes at me, and I punt it. Not too different from a big one, except the little ones
get more lift.

I think you need to get a puppy. Does not matter what kind as long as you like it. Next day you will love it.
A week later you will be inseparable friends for all its life.

I am very very bothered by the relationship humans have with dogs.

Not saying the dog doesn't like it, but it's essentially a mastery.
I think the biggest worry is the effect on the human.

I can't think of another pet that has this same problem - even if it ends up in the stew pot.

Have lived my whole life around pets, but they were always other people's pets. Have only once ever sought to acquire an animal on my own, and it made me realize why I had never done it before. It's strange due to having no issues with being a meat eater, yet have an ethical struggle with owning animals.

For me, it's only dogs. There are other working animals (horses ect) whose relationship
seems more appropriate to one of domination. There are other pets who show a form
of love (cats, birds), but they are not dominated. Something seems inherently unhealthy
to the unconditional love that a dog gives. To me, it's very similar to what I expect we'll
be seeing with robots in the near future.

Yes. Humans will be the dogs of the future. Devoted to our robot overlords.

Touche.

But, dominance will come from an illusion of the opposite

I've been pondering this since you wrote it and on one hand can definitely see what you're saying. It made me consider my own relationships with my dogs and I think there's more balance of meeting each others needs than most have with their dogs but one can't override the neuroscience in how a dogs brain reacts to the odor of their favourite people. The same reward centre in their brain lights up just as humans do. And outside of primates, they're the only animals who consistently seek out eye contact from humans.

I am very saddened that you feel this way.
I think if you get a puppy, you will grow some and you will have a best friend for life. Since you are a little bit more intelligent than a dog, it falls to you to make sure that both your needs are met.
Once you get to know a dog well, you will begin to know how deeply ingrained a dog's pack instinct is and witnessing pack behavior first hand you may come to know that you are not really a master, but a leader of their pack. They do worship the leaders of their packs, even lick their leaders' junk and assholes, but only so long as that leader continues to do everything the other members of the pack need.

Dogs ARE faithful. You have to kind of fuck up to lose a dog's faith.  The same goes for any leader of a dog pack.

Stop trying to make them humans and projecting your human horrors upon them. They are dogs. They are fine living as a part of a pack.

My friend's family dog hates me. Barks like mad whenever she sees my car pull up. She will let me pet her but only sometimes. Most of the time she growls when I'm near.

I just put up with it. It's her problem.

Um, dislike?

Her name is Josie, which I think is a cool name. Nice looking mix of a dog, too.

Don't you see that it doesn't matter? It's not the effect on the dog, but rather the improper
relationship for the human?
