Is there a basement in your building? If not, Google to find out what other places in a building are safest in a tornado.
Keep your wallet, fire agates and other vital possessions with you in case you have to go quickly into the basement
or other safe place. In the meantime, don't panic, just stay updated on the weather reports and be ready to move!  :viking:

In a tornado, your're better off in a ditch or culvert than a building. Have heard under highway overpasses are good too.

Go in the bathroom hide in the tub and drink beer

Go in the bathroom hide in the tub and drink beer

That will also work.........

The beer provides natural protection by filling the bladder so you are too heavy to be lifted into the funnel cloud!  :zoinks:

Actually you can be pulled out from under a highway overpass, so it's not the safest, but if no place else is available, then use it.

Most likely true, and advice given for traveling on interstate highways where there's nothing else around.

I'm glad you're OK, Richard.

I think the bathroom would be safer than outside unless you live in a mobile home, in which case lying in a ditch outside would be safer.

You want an interior room, closet, or hallway on the lowest floor you can get to so you can't be hurt by broken glass or falling debris.  When I was a kid and a tornado passed overhead, we dragged a mattress into the interior hallway so it could protect us from falling debris, but the tornado didn't hit our house but hit many others in town instead.

My brother's house was hit by a tornado when his wife was home alone and he was at work.  She huddled in a closet and was OK.  The house they live in now has a basement and they go into it if there's a tornado warning in their area.
