that they actually have a _physical boundary_ along the ground? for their territory
ive tested this

you can even take ONE STEP into their territory, and the nearest sentry gull sets off an alarm.
take ONE STEP back, and it makes a different sound, to call the alarm off.

you can also confuse them, by behaving "out of the ordinary", this will cause them to shut up, and start to observe you.
if they dive for you, stand your ground, try to jump up in time, and lash out against them. people never do this, and it totally screws their system up.

both acting odd, and acting aggressive, will grant you an escorted passage through gull-territory

what i did, as "odd behaviour" was to "walk on the spot" that really confused them
then i would wiggle my fingers, and take my hands in and out of my pockets

i also had this one gull, right next to me, and every time it moved, i made a loud "clop clop clop!" sound w my tongue. it froze, waited, and when it moved again, i made the sound again

during egg-chick-season they routinely dive for people here. sometimes your too close to a chick without realizing, but even then, those chicks just run around everywhere, causing their paranoid parents to follow, and attack everyone and everything
