You may not be able to afford the foam option.  I was in a fabric store this spring and the customer ahead of me was buying a piece 4 inches thick and about 8 feet long.  Over $70 and not returnable for health reasons.

He wouldn't need it to be eight feet long, though, just six feet or six feet six inches if he wanted it the length of a twin mattress.  You might be right that the foam might be more expensive than another air mattress; however, these popped air mattresses are adding up.  Since he found the leak, he may be able to patch it this time and if he can, that might be his best option for now.

I searched Hancock Fabric's website and the only foam I found there was $60 on sale for a five inch thick foam slab six feet by two feet with free shipping.   However, I think he might do better calling a local fabric store or a store that specializes in foam.
