I doubt if there's too many famous gays in N.Ireland. It's a pretty homophobic place. If you're gay over here you're likely to me beaten up, have your house vandalized or at least have abuse shouted at you in the street.

I'm definately not going to come out of the closet while I'm living here.

I know a few gays from up North though. It's not as bad as you think it is, once you stay out of the rough areas.

Maybe it would be OK in the nice parets of Belfast. I know of one gay woman whos house was always being vandalized, and one guy who everone assumes is gay, although he says he's straight. He can't walk up the high street without having abuse shouted at him by the schoolkids.

I'm more worried about the sectarian shit going on though, although I'm in sort of a grey zone since I'm Agnostic. They don't know what to do with those people.

Thankfuly nobody gave me any shit up North (yet), not even the Unionist guys. Just once you don't get involved in the politics, I suppose.

I avoid the sectarian stuff like the plague. I couldn't care less whether N.Ireland is part of Britain or Ireland. I do feel strongly though that violence is wrong in this situation.
I'm obviously no politician, but part of me thinks that it would maybe be best if N.Ireland was fully independent. If it's part of Britain half of the country will be unhappy, and if it's part of Ireland half the country will be unhappy. Maybe the whole of the province could unite behind an indpendent N.Ireland. It's probably wishfull thinking though.

I agree, however I don't think it'll completely stop the fighting. The only benefit is that the UK and Ireland don't need to get involved with it's matters anymore.

That's true, these people seem to hate each other and will find something to fight over.

I also think that the UK itself should break up into completely separate countries and form a union with Ireland called the ACU (Anglo-Celtic Union). Completely separate countries helping one another, sort of like the EU but in a smaller scale.

I do kind of agree with that. I've always thought Scotland should be independent.
