I was born two weeks late, because my mother had dangerous high blood pressure. Had I been born years later, they would have gotten me out two months early. But back then protocol was different. Keep the baby in as long as possible, so that it still can grow a bit, despite the maternal problems.

When I finally announced myself I came with such speed that my whole head was deformed. Bad enough that my Dad exclaimed that they could throw that (me) in the bin. The doctor said it would all be right with my head over time. But, as my Mom said, the GP would check every time in the pram when he saw my mother walking with me. As if he wasn't sure about what he had said about everything being alright over time.

I did get a normal baby head. And my Dad felt ashamed about his exclamation about throwing that in the bin. But it never bothered me that he had said that. To me it was just a funny part of the story of me coming into this world.

I realized today that I have a ridge on the top of my skull.  I think what I have is called a
persistent frontal suture.  Also called a metopic suture.  Or a metopic ridge.

My forehead doesn't have that prominent a ridge in it, but it is rounded forward in one spot, and there's
a raised line running across the middle of my skull from front to back.  I like knowing this stuff.  :autism:

I was almost 3 weeks late, but was born 5 lbs and "dead."  (Mom heard the nurse say, "Oh my G_d, the baby's black.")  I was kept in isolation for 3 days, no one even speaking to my mom about me.  When her regular ob-gyn came in from his vacation he asked her how she liked her new daughter.  "I don't know. I've never seen her."  He raised holy hell and Mom was allowed to see me.

Horrible. What was the reason they did not want your Mom to see you? Was it to keep the feeble mother away from anything shocking?

I really don't know.  What hurt Mom the most was that Dad, her mother and the in-laws never mentioned me in visits.

They probably got told that it was not good for the mother to hear distressing news. No news was considered to be better for a long time, ignorance is bliss or something like that. An aunt of mine had a stillborn daughter, due to complications during delivery in hospital. She was not allowed to see it. She was not allowed to give her a name, we were not supposed to talk to my aunt about it. Medical policy. My uncle had to fight to be allowed to at least bury the child. Did my aunt no good at all.

One of the sites I consulted says that the persistent frontal suture occurs in about 10% of the population.  :nerd!:

How much would a collector pay for it?  :toporly:

I overslept for three days in a row. Not just a little bit like ten or twenty minutes, but for a full hour all three days.

Oversleeping that long, on a regular weekday? Has not happened for years. Now three days in a row. I did not even slap the alarm off. Just slept through every attempt it made to wake me. (Every nine minutes it will make havoc for a minute) I must be really tired.

I was born a week late.  I was supposed to have been a St. Patrick's Day baby.  :lep:

I was born a month early. Couldn't wait to get out.

Did you have to spend any time in an incubator, if I may ask?  :chicken:

I think so. Mum also says I was sick all the time when I was an infant.

... and sadly you have spent the past thirty something years trying to get back in to one of those, but hopefully not the same one.

I know. Oldest joke in the books, but you left it SOOooooo open.

The post comma commentary was mine.
