Focusing government policy on how it will affect the economy is bad for the society. If a government is deciding on a piece of social equity only to find out it will impact on the economy rather harshly, they'll likely drop it.
Obviously there's ALOT more that goes into economics and this topic, but basically I'd rather a government that focused on social equity, nation building and infrastructure rather than how to build and protect their economy.
