Thought I would join to get rid of the stuff we have that is not inline with what we sell up at the fleamarket.  Then I went to the local site registered and have to be approved, okay I get it that's fine , then I get the big warning page about appropriate behavior getting a little annoying but fine.  Then I look at the items wanted and offered fuck everybody wants and not just small things freezers ,washers,dryers cloths I had to go back two days to see something offered to be given away   Mind you I just want to get rid of things around here and not just dump them things like games,  kids yard toys some books maybe some building materials and such and and happy to give the stuff to people but they all seem to want expensive things.  I have yet to post anything as I am not approved yet but will this work out? Anyone with experience with this?

I belong to Freecycle and can't say I'm impressed with our local group.  There are some big things offered and requested, but most items seem to be children's clothes and furniture and small household items (and I do mean small - wastebasket, 2 spatulas).  I've had a few things picked up, but at least half of the time the person didn't show up, so I had to pick someone else and wait again. 

Members seem to give items to the first person responding, which is a big downer if you don't have a notification system to let you know when something's being offered.  All in all I'm probably going to drop out.

That said, it has it's good and bad points. I've given away alot of stuff without many problems, and I've offered alot of stuff only to get no replies and ended up hauling it into Goodwill or had better luck setting it out curbside with a "FREE" sign at my mom's.  Be prepared for the occasional no-show, and I've had a few ask if I would deliver.

You can really get swamped email wise if you're offering something high in demand, I usually go by the first to respond and file a couple more for backup in case person A decides they don't want to travel the distance or they turn out to be a no-show.

The "wanted" ads can get really crazy at times, especially around Christmas. Any mention of money is a big no-no since they are a registered non-profit now, something to be aware of if you post ISO something. You can set the emails to daily digest if they start taking over your inbox, at times they can.

The main piss off it seems is people who don't turn up to collect shit and people who list things but don't mention that they are in terrible condition.

We got some cool shit through freecycle though, the best in my opinion was a chipped fully working Xbox1 with 2 controllers and a handful of games.

We got some cool shit through freecycle though, the best in my opinion was a chipped fully working Xbox1 with 2 controllers and a handful of games.

I run one also, took the plunge about 5 years ago because they're wasn't any to be found in this area.

Got a nice mower once and basically that's about it, I figured it might help keep my pack-rat tendencies under control somewhat, easier for me to part with things if I think it's going to someone that can use it.

Biggest issue next to the no-shows around here has been the over abundance of wanted postings, especially around Christmas. Seems like every holiday there is always some big lay-off or work reduction and alot of people end up losing their jobs and it gets nuts.
