Just noticed today while working on my sons bedroom, with all the storms and tree trimming by the state and city over the last couple years I can clearly see Long Island Sound from my sons bedroom window and even see the outline of the hills on Long Island which is in  New York  about 17 miles away.

 Da'yum!!  That is a long view.
 Here it is too flat and ever so slightly hilly to see much past a mile, most places. You would have to find a really high spot to get a vista like that.

I have always lived along the coast so long views over water I kinda take for granted not sure how I would fair where you are,  I'd have to live on top of a hill
