No weed police here.

The grass at the vacant house next door is a little over 2 ft in places now.

Probably had I known that no one intended on cutting it like they said they would , I would have done it myself.
Now it's so high I'm afraid of hitting all the shit that was left laying around in the yard and fucking up the mower. And not unlike Phlexor's mower , my recent trimmer is a pussy.

Not that the appearance really bothers me, it just screams "I'm vacant...burn me" to all the budding arsonist wanna-be's.

Vacant houses don't live long around here, and unfortunately this one is a little too close for comfort.

Part of my back yard was like that till the other day the trick is to use a weed wacker on it first. I have several that I picked up on the side of the road I can fix the motors but have never mastered the string part

We have dandelion police here, so you can get a ticket if you let dandelions or other weeds on your property grow over a foot tall.

What happens if you say you grow them for dandelion wine production?

I'm not sure because I've never tried it, but they would probably say that your property is zoned for residential use, not as a farm.

Technically, I think you can grow dandelions, but you can't let them grow over a foot tall, so if you harvested the flowers before they went to seed, they might be OK with it.

I always think of how much fuel and energy must be used up each year on this pathological maintenance.

Fake grass is starting to catch on a bit here I've noticed. I think more people should use it if they are so desperate for the ol' classic look.

I like how my lawn looks when it's perfectly cared for, and I enjoy maintaining my lawn.  Watering the whole lawn without in-ground sprinklers is a challenging task.  You have to wait until the sun starts to go down since watering in the bright sun can actually cause the grass to dry out quicker.  I have a "tractor" sprinkler which follows it's hose around, so I have to lay the hose out to form a track for it to follow to make sure it get's complete coverage.

When I mow the lawn, or dethatch it, I like driving the lawn tractor around, driving in long, even rows and seeing my progress as I go.  The same goes for spreading fertilizer or dropping lime, walking in even lines, making sure it looks right.

Maintaining a good lawn is an art, and I enjoy it a lot.  When it just looks right, then my house stands out in the neighborhood, the neighbors don't know of the ungodly mess inside my house, they just see it from the street and think I know what I'm doing.

My neighbour has a postage-stamp of a lawn in his front garden and a marginally bigger one in the back, but he spends hours mowing it and trimming all the edges and generally footering around with it.

Hoarder?

Hell, I am not sure that I have ever not hoarded things that I have accumulated.  (What ever may be way past "hoarder"  I am that.  I call it collecting. I have many collections - LoL!!)

My focus has been cameras, guns, various militaria, plant life, coins, costumes, knives, swords, old medical bottles, keys, measuring tapes, tools, music ... uHm, that probably make s my point. 

I have many more collections and I have had a long, productive life; a damn GOOD one, actually.

I'm not a hoarder, I just often have a hard time keeping things clean.  The lawn is interesting, taking care of it's not compulsive, it's fun, I enjoy it.  Granted I'll admit that the sound of someone else's lawn mower can get annoying, but the smell of fresh-cut grass makes up for it.
