who dreams that they cant walk/run?
« on: June 02, 2010, 09:49:59 PM »
its a very recurring element in my dreams

im suspecting its a physical cause, of feet tangled in the blanket

it comes back to haunt a lot of my dreams, one thing that makes the above suspicion not hold is that i am free to move my arms as much as i want, and theyre usually locked under my pillow

i will often drag myself along the ground, sometimes by my fingertips.

im SO annoyed by it, that ive even lost some of the fascination i used to have with dreamtime, cus lately they all end up the same, im fucking stuck, i cant walk, i have to lean foreward, and drag myself around on my fingertips :S

i used to have loose teeth, that i had to "chew in place", but the no-walk has totally taken over :/

I have had those dreams. Especially the can't run ones. Becomes really hard like walking through molasses. Sometimes I think in my dreams "Oh no, not this again."

its also totally unrelated to the "story" of the dream, so it fucks up a lot...

I've had episodes of that too, but for me it happens as I am just beginning to fall asleep, so I can easily twitch myself out of it. Scary indeed.

Since it's a recurring dream, maybe it means that you are feeling helpless or pinned down in some aspects or circumstances of your life.  Maybe you feel unable to deal with a situation or that you can't do or change something you want to.

Not walking or running, but have dreamt of being blind. You may be right about the physical cause, such as blankets.

callaway: my entire life is like that :D

osensitive: huh weird.. and yes, it could be a combination. i dont believe dreams are as wise as everyone wants them to be, but it could be a manifestation of both a limiting blanket and even my own subconcious fear that i will dream about just that again.

for the dream to be symbolic, like callaway suggests, i need to know how symbols are formed in my brain. i have never considered myself very fond of symbolism, and i will rarely use figurative symbolism in my writings. so how will my brain end up using symbolism in my dreams?
i am VERY fascinated by how dreams shape themselves

My daughter is very interested in interpretation of dreams, so that is how I became interested.

If it were not a recurring dream, then I would look for a more literal interpretation, but I wonder how you could keep becoming tangled in blankets night after night.  Of course people are also essentially paralyzed during REM sleep so if you were looking for a literal interpretaion, that could be the cause.

yes, i see the logical flaw of tangledness being the only cause as well, especially since ill often resort to dragging myself along the ground by my arms, and my arms are often as locked up as my legs during sleep. whats weird is, w my arms i WILL be able to move foreward, sometimes even quickly :S
