How about if your mother drives you (or at least tries) crazy as you get older.  The fucking cunt who is my "mother" turns 80 in December and still tells me I';m going to burn in hell for choosing my wife over her!

There comes a point in ones life where one has to choose between the future and the present/past.  I chose the future....and I haven't looked back since!

Glad you found it amusing!

Dysfunctional; my parents divorced when I was 8 because my dad was a repeatedly unemployed alcoholic chain smoker who lied about money and almost lost us the house because he didn't pay the mortgage.  My sisters were much older than me, so I never got to know them particularly well, and they weren't around much after the divorce.  Between the ages of 4 and 8, I saw very little of either parent, since dad would be out or sitting in front of the TV smoking, and mum was working and trying to keep things running when she got back, and then would listen to relaxation tapes and get ill a lot.

After the divorce, I lived with mum, and the sisters moved away to go to uni.  She worked a lot, and found some guy who was a dick and would manipulate her and periodically leave her and make her cry and stuff.  He turned out to be a complete liar; he made up everything from where he'd grown up to what his job had been, and she found out just recently when she traced his family tree.  She's still with him though.

Dysfunctional, and thats nothing to do with a teen angsty outlook either.
Growing up in general was pretty dysfunctional and at times hard due to things id experienced, situations i ended up in etc.

My mum, bro and i are generally a happy close family. We have our quirks, we also have our differences and personality clashes from time to time, but we are there for each other if one needs the other and we do care about/love one another. My mother and i had a major bad patch for years but about 7/8yrs ago she started feeling bad about some things that i had went thru that she didnt help with or notice at the time etc and started trying to make an effort and make up for her mistakes/errors and we've been pretty close in our own way since then.

Things were rather bad till it got to that point though.

I dont think theres such a thing as a typically normal or functional family, some just work better than others for various reasons, but every family has their own past, secrets, issues, problems or whatever.

I agree that every family has their issues, but I think its how well a family deals with them that makes them functional rather than dysfunctional.

You'll never self-actualize the subconscious canopy of stardust with that attitude.
