I know it is way too early, but nothing wrong with welcoming winter.
Will have finished them before the big imposter tries to take over. 
Ginger nuts?
That's the closest description of it there is I guess. But, both kruidnoten and the various versions of pepernoten are a lot smaller than ginger nuts.
Spices in both kruidnoten and some of the pepernoten are more based around cinnamon, the "official" pepernoot has a strong aniseed like tone in the flavour.
I love ginger nuts. If they sold those here, I would skip kruidnoten.
