Bacon breakfast burrito.
I cook a lot of at work, but eat very little of it.
Do you dislike bacon, or have you lost your taste for it because you cook so much of it?
I just had a bowl of homemade chili I made in the crock pot. I even soaked the beans in the crock pot before I started and threw out the soaking water, of course.
I've always thought that bacon smells better than it tastes. I have the same
opinion of coffee, steak and popcorn. I will eat a little bite of bacon but not much.
Now that homemade chili sounds good. Do you make yours mild or hot?
I made this medium. I use Chugwater chili seasoning which I bought from the Chugwater corporate office in Chugwater, Wyoming. We pulled off the highway there once and had a flat tire. They were so nice helping us deal with it and their chili seasoning really is good, so we have bought it from them ever since.
That's nice that you support them! Do you use turkey or beef?
In this recipe, I used two pounds of ground beef , a whole 16 ounce bag of dried red beans, one large diced onion, a can of diced tomatoes, and four heaping spoonsful of Chugwater chili seasoning. With dried red beans, you have to make sure to boil them for at least ten minutes before you soak them and then throw away the soaking water because they contain a phytohaemagglutinin which can make you sick unless it's deactivated by boiling. Some crock pots don't get hot enough to deactivate it, but mine does, at least on the high setting. I confirmed this with a thermometer, and also I made sure the beans boiled for at least ten minutes. I cooked the ground beef and onion in a skillet on the stove before I added it to the soaked and drained red beans and then added the tomatoes and seasoning. I may have added a little more water to make sure everything was covered with liquid.
