Why where does it all come from?

Curbside mostly....have a couple of fancy housing plans that I cruise through on a regular basis. People can be extremely wasteful.

We have a shooting range just up the road in a nearby field...I take the .32 up now and then and bring home a bag of brass littering the ground.

I know many of the board members, cops, and the magistrate pretty well, used to drink on occasion with the retired magistrate.

Nope, can't cross that line anymore...maybe in younger years I might have.

Besides nothing gets abandoned around here...it burns to the ground first.

Can't cross what line? burgling abandoned homes and industrial buildings?
There isn't a suspect about doing so, not when the place is derelict or otherwise abandoned. It is completely different if you went breaking and entering somebody's home. Somewhere lived in or valued, but when people effectively throw the pace away and leave it to the elements, it isn't as if THEY (the actual people who possess the title deeds to the building are ever going to return, carrying a hacksaw, hammer, wire snips and a  pipe cutter, crowbar the floorboards up and out, and once they get the floorboards up, cut the pipes out, laboriously hack the copper boiler to bits to sell .  Too bad, because if others bitch me out for it, well they had their opportunity and failed to use it.

Yesterday not today but close enough I found a bunch of mice nesting in the insulation in the hopper of one of my spare blowing machines, dug out three garbage bags of smelly insulation and left them open in the back yard so the mice can escape

I think crap like that should be technically be declared open season for all the scavengers. It's just plain wasteful when places are left to rot, some with contents still intact...when they could be of benefit. Let them be able to sign some kind of waiver saying they loose their right to sue if they get injured or killed doing it...give them a card....and let them loose if the place has been left vacant for more than a set amount of time.

I wish there was something like that,  convincing people you will not sue them is a major stumbling block in  getting access to places and I like you are not keen on getting arrested for trespassing these days.  When I was in college I did and had to go to court and pay a $50 fine no biggy but when my son was caught near an abandoned factory just trespassing no vandalism  when he was 13 he had to do 50 hours of community service

That would be a great idea. I just lessen any risk by doing any such burglarizing at night, say, 3-4am when nobody is about. Take a look around and then dive over/under/through any fencing, wearing camo gear and a bergen to hold any liberated goods.

Last place I did, got lead, a copper boiler, lots of pipe, and when I had the floorboards up, a huge pile of floppy disks of very old, classic DOS games, such as system shock, one of the best ever cyberpunk games, and terminator-future shock.

And as well, bagged a few antique vases, plus some other chinawear. I pretty much gutted the place. Even bricked the windows in order to drag the lead web-frame things into the house and bag 'em.

When I found a trapdoor that led to the old lead hot water tank, I got really lucky because I found a full set of cigarette cards. Those can be worth a bit now, as they are never made now. There is a single one missing, but  if I bought the one card to fill the set then it wouldn't surprise me if they are worth a bit.

Hell, I can't even barely see at night anymore. 

Bunch of fancy resorts up in the Pocono's that are like a time warp back into the 70's, some look like everyone just walked out and left one day. 

I would love to plunder something like that for a weekend, I'd have to rent a moving van though...far too much booty for the tiny truck.

Piddling clean up of the house turned up some trash that needed to be thrown away, utensils that needed to be cleaned, items to be given away and a form I need to fill out.

Yesterday morning I spotted an electric motor with a grinding wheel on the side of the road went back around to get it and found a tray out of a tool box with a couple clamps, 3 ball peen hammers, some wrenches and other tools including 14 inch Starrett dividers
