That my suspicion about the overturned and opened cat food container is correct. I went to the laundry room just past twilight (shed attached to the house) and as I stepped up to go into the dark, there was a hiss, something ran out, brushed against my leg and ran around the corner of the shed. The glimpse of a bushy tail confirmed that it is a raccoon. So now the cat will have her food taken in at twilight. Her container was already being kept in the kitchen. I don't want to be bitten by a raccoon, or oppossum, or squirrel, or...........

Possums won't likely bite you though; a raccoon might, but that depends on how socialised they are. Good on ya for bringing in the food.
