Picked up the rest of my meds, the antiseizure and stomach meds, plus muscle relaxers and adrenal blockers (not beta blockers, those make me feel like shite on a turd filled anus-bun with a squirt of pre-eaten mustard diarrhea on top. And I fucking hate mustard. I had surplus muscle relaxers and the noradrenergic release inhibitor left from last script refill so that could wait. Old man gof home from fishing just in time to wake me up to catch part of an episode of trek-TOS that I'd seen before and then watch voyager after that finished. And then decided it was time to eat, and got me a burger, that I didn't have to pay for. Which, seeing as I'm going to need almost £900 to pay for the rotavap I so badly want, is most welcome indeed.
Mmmmm...the thought of having that brand new rotavap on my lab bench, vacuum pump hooked up (if it hasn't an integral one)...its a 1-liter flask capacity one, not huge, although I could afford, just, I think, maybe a 2 liter one instead..will have to do some consulting and see how adaptable they are with some fellow chemists of certain specialities and proclivities, to see how adaptable they are, and see if its a simple part swap that would let me use different flask sizes, or a heating bath size or what, because if its, as I figure most likely, the size of the heating bath, I could mod that myself and have several, swappable ones on something like a rotating tray with movable electrical contacts, if the attachment point just takes as standard, any 24/40 joint taper and length flask neck and seals to that then modifying shouldn't be difficult. I'd love to make a microwave modification for it too, so I could rotavap things under microwave irradiation whilst simultaneously subjecting the flask contents to vacuum distillation. Oh boy, I'd be the slavering, drooling envy of chemist hobbyists everywhere, clandestine and otherwise. for a DIY mod like that.
I've seen some nifty arse MW oven hacks before, including one that had been altered to stand on its side, so its longest axis pointed up-down rather than sideways, and had a hole bored in the top, so a flask could be placed within the MW cavity, a condenser and other accoutrements attached to the condenser, running outside the MW, with dual coolant feed lines running in past the shielding and even a MW modified to be a dual-purpose MW-photoreactor hybrid. *que lestat just getting another idea for potential doings with that rotavap's still pot section......a microwavable, photoreactor-whilst-microwavable and ideally if possible, automatic temperature control feedback with facilities for either standard condensers to fit the flask neck joint size designed for (24/40, which is what the vast majority of my glassware is in, and my preferred size generally aside from the likes of 5ml, 10ml etc. micro- and ultramicroscale glassware of course where such a joint size would mean the joints themselves are of much larger capacity than the actual flasks) or, same fitting size and attachment for a dry-ice condenser circulating dry ice-acetone-dimethyl ether type mixtures or even liquid nitrogen perhaps. That, would be, to use the vernacular 'kick bloody well arse and then some' (and, not that it'd be my aim, but probably drive my fellow bees green with envy)
