Beam of real cherry wood in open kitchen varnished twice. Still a protected layer is needed.. which will make it look just a tad darker still.

I always think cherry wood as being dark, like a cherry, even though I know better.  I also think of mahogany as being a darker brown than it is.  Holdover from my childhood.
