norwegian NRK is showing superbowl tonight, purely as a curiousity :D
theyre gonna explain the rules and stuff beforehand  :zoinks:

purely for tourism :D im gonna watch, just to see what you guys are fussing about.
the rest of the (western) world has the football (what you know as "soccer"... ) world cup as the absolutely biggest event, well, second to the olympic games of course.

World cup is bigger than Olympics here I think. That is, if 'we' get through far enough. It's only once in the four years of course.
It's not limited to one day. For weeks streets will be decorated in orange. Being more and more over the top the further 'we' get towards the finals.

What makes the Dutch really go out of their heads too is the "Elfstedentocht", but that is only once in ten to twenty years.

I enjoy the SuperBowl too.    I don't have a rooting interest in this game really.   I do hate the Colts, so I will be going for the Saints this time.   I am not going to be disappointed if the Colts win or anything, because I expect them to.

The commercials have been a letdown lately.   Some of the greatest commercials have aired first during the SuperBowl.   Last year was just ok.
:P   Internets are super serious.

I generally find american sports boring
I'm sure it is on one of the sports channels here, but not many people watch it

The football world cup  is bigger than the olympics here, at least if England are still in it

i think the olympics is the biggest in terms of gathering "everyone" around the tv screen. the olympic opening is a global event, for example.
but yes, for a country doing it well in the football world cup, there will be palpable insanity :D

There are obviously plenty of people who'd go to that one game, but it,s nothing compared to the games we have week in week out between united, Chelsea , arsenal etc. You'll find enough ppl to watch the game once a year but go into a bar the next dayy and ask if anyone saw the game and they'll assume u meant football

i watch it for the commercials.

Ha ha! That's like saying you read Playboy for the short fiction! Except now that I think about it? Not really. Any one of those 30-second spots could easily have cost many times more to produce than the game itself. At those prices, the ads that get aired on the game should bloody well be works of art.

P.S. Any chance you could post a link to your voting philosophy? Now I'm all curious and shit.

maybe callaway can find a post.

you do realize that i have made over 35,000 posts. and i took two years off.  :'(

the basic theory is that i always vote for the challenger to the incumbent.
the reasoning is simple:  while campaigning the politician makes all sorts of promises to the people.  then when they get elected they become puppets for the corporations.

i think that if all the voters did this in each election for the next decade then the politicians would learn that the citizens are the ones who actuall y have the power .  and it is the voting populous that decides whether or no they become career politicions.

the reason that i don't think that it matters who gets voted in is because in america we have a duopoly.  the dems and republicans are basically cut from the same cloth.
sure they have a few buzz issues that they seem to disagree on, and if you look closely these issues are usually moot points.

I believe in all but one that You said McJagger about career politicians though how Will Replace them but people who want to be career Politicians in the end too.

thats the problem kevv.  the people can assure that they will not be career politicians if they begin to vote with more responsibility.  for example; don't vote if the only method you have for voting is by name recognition.

here is what i do.

i don't give a flying fuck who the politician is, i believe that they all need to be recycled.  i vote anti-incumbant.

if both of the choices are brand new, then i vote libertarian.

as far as i see it.  all politicians make campaign promises but only honor those that were made to the people who mainly funded their campaigns;the fat cats.
i also see democrats and republicans being one in the same; a pawn of big business.

so i don't really give a rats ass about either.
