Why are we giving money to Haiti

There are some relatively poor people out there that are suckered into giving to charities (at least the corrupt ones).   This world is fucked for numerous reasons, and natural disasters like earthquakes on fault lines are inevitable.   If you don't want to get pwned by an earthquake, don't live on a fault line.   Memphis, Tennessee is going to get fucked up by an earthquake some day.

I am far too selfish to give to charities.   I would rather spend my money on myself and the people I care about, none of which reside on that island.

Nobody gives a rat's ass about actually helping people, it's all about PR.  This whole "Haitian relief effort" is just an excuse to put on big expensive concerts and pretend that it's being done for a good cause.  There's still huge parts of New Orleans that look like Katrina hit yesterday, but that was 5 years ago, nobody that's not actually affected by it gives a rat's ass about that anymore, it's old news.

Notice how before the earthquake hit, the charities were still pushing for cash for the tsunami in some country, before that it was Katrina, before that it was 9/11.  It's all about exploiting the suffering of those affected by tragedy so as to make more money and give the celebrities a chance to act like they actually give a rat's ass about people.

There is no good US solution for all of the world's problems.

A friend of mine took all the profits from his CD sales at his recent concert and donated it to Haiti.   His girlfriend is Haitian.   I was mixing the show and it went pretty well.   His t-shirt sales went to him directly though.

Let any Haitian who wants to live here come here. Haitians (by and large) are hardworking and spiritual people. Yes, we'll get some voodoo wingnuts in the mix, but they'll probably end up in N'awlins to make sure the Saints win the Super Bowl.
By comparison, think of how much US has benefitted by the immigration of German Jews==Einstein et.al.for a start.
